I guess it means summer is on it’s way out when I’m talking about the Festival being two weeks ago…we had a good four days this year, meeting many new friends, and being visited by some “regulars”…the Good Lord provided us with nice weather, and all in all it was a good event…I was quite pleased with the fact that we had a few people stop in with the purpose of seeking an application to the SUVCW and Auxilliary…considering the fact that there were over 3,600 men and boys from Armstrong County who helped preserve our Union, some who never returned[buried in National Cemeteries at Andersonville, GA, Antietam, MD, Stones River, TN, and Gettysburg,PA to name a few], it’s hard sometimes to understand why our membership remains quite small… so, when someone requests an application, it makes the time and effort all the more worthwhile…this year we had some “original” muskets on display, our ladies made handkerchief dolls for the little ones, the soldiers performed “loading and firing” demonstrations, and our usual encampment and artifacts were open to visitors…I was also well pleased that some of our young men and ladies were there throughout the week…they are, after all, the future of our organization, and I was proud of them for being there…as we look forward to the 2011 Folk Festival[which will mark the 40th Anniversary], Camp#43 will also be acknowledging the 150th Anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War, by hosting the “Pennsylvania Civil War Roadshow”, a traveling museum[53′ tractor-trailer with extension]….we are currently working on selecting the site for the Roadshow, and hope to find a suitable location very soon…for anyone who stopped to see us this year, “Thank You” for your interest, and we really hope to hear from you or see you again soon.
